    Q:
How do you remove and install the manual transmission on Chevrolet Tracker? Posted by Customer
    A:
To delete it from Samurai models, unbolt the negative terminal from the battery and drain the oil out of the transmission and the transfer case. It is done with the removal of the transfer case and the transmission shift lever while still within the vehicle. Lift the vehicle up using jack stands and in order to have sufficient space to work on the area of to be welded, remove any exhaust system parts that you may need to have out of the way. Sustain the engine either by employing an engine hoist or by placing a jack alongside a wooden plank under the oil pan of the engine so as to ensure that the engine stays fixed as the transmission is removed. Replace the distributor and then put a wooden block between the distributor housing and the firewall. Expand the support of the transmission with a jack preferably a special one and then take out the starter. Remove the rear transmission support to crossmember nuts and bolts, lift up the transmission a little and then take off the crossmember. Depower the airbag system and unbolt the crash flange mounting the front crossmember of the car, unbolt the front and rear driveshafts, unbolt the clutch cable from the release arm and the bolts that connect the transmission to the engine. Make sure all the wires and hoses are removed, then slowly push the transmission and jack backward while maintaining the level of the trans till the input shaft gets out of the clutch pressure plate's reach. If so simple, lower the gear and take off the transmission beneath the car. Check the clutch parts after disassembly and if needs be fit new clutch parts before lifting the transmission on the jack for fitting. Lock the end of the transmission to the jack, lift it up in order to get it into the position to slide forward and adjust the angle as necessary to engage the input shaft with the clutch plate hub. Bolt in the transmission-to-engine bolts and tighten before fitting the crossmembers and the transmission support and tighten all the nuts and bolts. Take out the jacks supporting the transmission and engine, install the transfer case and then put the other parts back in place, and make all the connections necessary, together with ensuring that the transmission and transfer case have the lubricant filled to the right level before lowering the vehicle. Last, it is possible to assemble the shift lever inside the vehicle, reconnect the negative battery cable, and conduct road test to ensure that the car runs as required and the chances of electrical leakage are eliminated. As for the Sidekick/X-90/Vitara/Tracker models, the removal and the installation of the above components are also conducted according to the same procedure; however, before installing the working components, one has to check all the necessary connections, then lower the car and make a road test.
