    Q:
How do you remove and install a manual transmission on Cadillac CTS? Posted by Customer
    A:
To take of the transmission you set the front wheels and then lock them by turning the wheel with your hands, being very gentle not to harm the clockspring when disconnecting the intermediate shaft. Remove the battery thenJack up the front of the car, just enough for the transmission to be slid out but use jack stands to support the car. It is also required to remove the exhaust system and the driveshaft in addition to the VSS and backup light switch connectors. For 2004 and earlier models place an approved jack supporting the transmission, remove the four support bolts, lower the rear of the transmission with the support to have access to the top, and detach the control rods. Remove the intermediate shaft from steering gear, place rear side of the front subframe on a stand, and take out the subframe bolts and nuts after loosening them and unclipping the wiring harness clips and take out the rest of the bolts joining the transmission and the engine. Be very cautious when lifting the gear stick and at the same time lowering the transmission towards the engine. On the models after 2005, disconnect a shift knob with a control rod, lift a transmission and lower it to unbolt from the mating engine threads as well as the dowel pins. For installation one should lubricate the input shaft with high temperature grease and then lift the transmission into position and finally engage the input shaft with the clutch without applying to much pressure. After fitting the mounts, perform the reverse sequence with the bolts from before: Applause, and torque the remaining and transmission to engine bolts, torque the cross member bolts, tighten the locking control rod pin retainers, refill the transmission with the stock proper type, and bleed the clutch system at the same time.
