    Q:
How do you remove and install a automatic transaxle on Chevrolet Malibu? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before starting the removal of the transaxle, unbolt the battery, and the battery tray and then disconnect the cable of the shift from the shift lever of the transaxle, in a manner that when working the cable will not interfere with the area. Then, it is necessary to remove wires connected to the case of the transaxle, grounds, harness clips as well as the range switch, speed sensors, and control module. Remove the front wheel, and unscrew the front wheel lugs nuts and drive axle/hub nuts, lift the front of the car and put on a jack stand. Empty the transaxle fluid and then unbolt the transmission cooler line and remove the cooler line utilizing proper plugs and caps so that there will be no contamination. Place an engine support fixture, fasten chains to the lifting brackets, or to some strongly reinforced component of the engine in case if the brackets are missing. Disconnect the uppermost transaxle-to-engine mounting bolts, subframe, driveaxles, intermediate shaft and starter. Use the starter opening to dismantle the bolts of the torque converter, the direct relation between this and driveplate should be noted. Place the transaxle in position with a special jack if this type of jack is available, using safety chains or straps if possible. Here for the turbocharged models, you should now unscrew the catalytic converter brace nuts and the brace. Disconnect the harness and take out the rest of the transaxle to engine bolts after which pull the transaxle backward off the engine while holding the torque converter in place. Lower the transaxle until it is possible to put the transaxle on the ground safely. In installation, do the removal procedure in the reverse order, connect the torque converter with the transaxle fluid pump, tighten all the nuts that hold the drive plates and the torque converter, but before tightening it, put on new O-rings. Lastly, put the right grade and quantities of automatic transmission fluid in the transaxle and also set the shift cable.
