Before we go for removal of this particular ignition switch, the reader is warned that replacing the Ignition Lock Cylinder and key should not be done at home if the original key has not been used to set the tumblers in the replacement lock cylinder; programming of the transponder in the new key by a dealer or a qualified repair shop is necessary for the engine to start. First, remove the cable from the negative terminal of the battery as well as the upper and lower steering column. Most cars, place your ignition key in the Ignition Lock Cylinder and turn it to the start position; you then use a thin tool to push the lock cylinder release tab and pull out the lock cylinder. The installation process is quite the opposite of the removal process, as was noted earlier. After that, take off the covers of the steering column and then separate the electrical connections of the theft deterrent control module from it and then finally remove it from the Ignition Lock Cylinder housing. Pull out the theft deterrent module and then unlock the lock cylinder, and then you should pull out the wires' connection from the ignition switch. To take off the Ignition switch, you have to apply small flat-bladed screwdrivers in the locks of the tabs to release, and then you can pull it out from the steering column. Make sure that the gears on top of the switch are properly aligned when fitting them, but otherwise fitting is done in the reverse order to the removal.
