How Should You Remove and Install the Park/Neutral Position Switch on Chevrolet Corvette? Posted by Customer
    A:
Raise and support the rear of the vehicle securely on jackstands and block the front wheels. Place the transmission in the Neutral position, then remove the intermediate exhaust pipe/catalytic converter assembly, securing the driver's side muffler out of the way for access to the driver's side of the transmission. Disconnect the shift cable from the transmission shift lever and the Park/Neutral position switch electrical connectors. While preventing the shift shaft and lever from rotating, remove the nut attaching the transmission shift lever to the shift shaft, ensuring the transmission remains in the neutral position before removing the lever. Disconnect the Park/Neutral position switch electrical connector, then remove the Park/Neutral switch bolts and the switch from the shift shaft. Install and align the Park/Neutral switch by first installing it to the shift shaft and tightening the mounting bolts fingertight. With the shift shaft in neutral, align the notch in the Park/Neutral switch with the transmission shift lever slots in the shift shaft, then tighten the Park/Neutral switch bolts to the specified torque. Complete the installation by reversing the removal procedure.

    Q:
How to adjust the Back Up Light Switch and Neutral Safety Switch on Pontiac Firebird? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the screws retaining the shift indicator plate to the console, then slide the plate up the shifter handle and secure it to the shifter knob with a rubber band. Position the shifter assembly in the Neutral notch in the detent plate, and loosen but do not remove the screws retaining the switch assembly to the shifter assembly. Rotate the switch assembly so that the service adjustment hole on the switch is aligned with the carrier tang hole, then insert a 3/32-inch drill bit as a gauge pin through the service adjustment hole to a depth of 19/32-inch. Tighten the switch assembly retaining screws, remove the gauge pin, and reinstall the shift indicator plate.

    Q:
How do you remove and install the TR switch on Saturn LS? Posted by Customer
    A:
To turn off the TR switch, one has to engage the parking brake and move the shift lever to the NEUTRAL position. There should be a TR switch on top of the transaxle; then with the screwdriver or trim panel removal tool, prise the Heim joint off the TR switch lever by disconnecting the shift control cable from the TR switch lever. After that, unscrew the lock on the electrical connector of the TR switch and pull it off. Compact the TR switch lever nut by holding the lever with a large water pump pliers and then rotating the nut to become loose and then the lever is ejected. Then, if necessary, undo the TR switch mounting bolts to pull out the switch out of the transaxle. For installation, make sure the shift lever is still IN NEUTRAL, the flats on the transaxle shift shaft should engage the flats in the TR switch and just tighten the switch mounting bolts slightly. Position it using alignment fixture and then tighten switch mounting bolts to the torque specified by the company. At the end of the installation procedures, undo the process as explained above and tighten the TR switch lever nut by using water pump pliers in the right degree of torque.

    Q:
How do you identify and remove the Park/Neutral Position switch for different transaxles on Saturn Vue? Posted by Customer
    A:
For transaxle identification, consult the "Vehicle Identification Numbers" section. The Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch is sometimes referred to as such. To remove the switch, first place the shift lever in NEUTRAL. For the VT25-E transaxle, remove the battery and battery tray, pry the shift cable off the ballstud on the transaxle range switch using two screwdrivers, disconnect the electrical connectors, remove the control lever nut and lever, and then remove the two bolts to lift off the switch. For the AF33-5 transaxle, follow similar steps, ensuring to disconnect the electrical connector by pulling out the safety clip and releasing the retainer, then remove the shaft nut and washers while holding the lever with a wrench. For the 4T45-E transaxle, remove the battery and tray, disconnect the shift cable, squeeze the tabs on the cable sheath, remove the control lever nut and lever, disconnect the electrical connector, and lift off the switch. For the 5-AT transaxle, loosen the lug nuts, raise the vehicle, remove the left front wheel and inner fender splash shield, detach the cover from the transmission range switch, disconnect the wiring, remove the control lever nut and lever, bend the tabs of the lockwasher down, and lift off the switch. For installation of the VT25-E transaxle, ensure the transaxle is in Neutral, align the new switch with the shaft, install it while leaving the fasteners snug until verifying the engine starts only in Park and Neutral, then tighten the switch screws. For the AF33-5 transaxle, install the switch and hand-tighten the fasteners, ensuring the control shaft lever is in Neutral, and verify the engine starts only in Park and Neutral before tightening the screws. For the 4145-E transaxles, ensure both the transaxle and switch are in Neutral, align the new switch, and follow similar steps for verification and tightening. For the 5-AT transaxles, ensure both are in Neutral, snug the fasteners, align the lockwasher, install and tighten the shaft nut, and verify the engine starts only in Park or Neutral.
