To replace the ignition switch on 2002 and earlier models, first disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, then remove the instrument trim panel and the knee bolster trim panel. Next, detach the lock cylinder connector from the ignition switch, remove the ignition switch bezel, and take out the bolts securing the ignition switch to the dash. For automatic models, remove the park/lock cable before taking out the ignition switch. Installation is the reverse of removal. For 2003-2004 models, start by removing the center console, knee bolster trim panel, and instrument panel trim panel. Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector by pressing in on the locking tabs, then remove the ignition switch bezel plate carefully to avoid cracking it. Detach the hazard switch wiring harness and the park/lock cable if applicable, then remove the ignition switch retaining bolts and the lock housing, with installation being the reverse of removal. For 2005 and later models, the rolling code security system prevents unauthorized access by sending signals in random order. If a "NO KEY FOB" message appears, it may be due to interference from RF signals in certain areas; try moving the key fob or placing it in the glove box slot for better access to the vehicle's systems. To remove the park/lock cable from the ignition switch housing, access the ignition switch, turn the key to the ON position, and use a small flat screwdriver to depress the retaining clip before pulling the cable out. For ignition Ignition Lock Cylinder removal, follow the ignition switch removal procedures, insert the key and turn it to ON, then depress the tab on the lock housing to pull the key and tumbler out. Insert the correctly cut key into the replacement Ignition Lock Cylinder and push it into the ignition switch lock housing until it clicks. Ensure the ignition switch operates correctly in all positions, and installation is the reverse of removal.
