    Q:
How do you remove and install a front strut on Chevrolet Camaro? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before removing the strut it requires the wheel lug nuts to be unscrewed, lift the vehicle and place the car on jack stands and then remove the wheel. Finally unbolt the stabilizer bar link from the strut, disconnect the brake hose and the ABS wheel speed sensor harness from their housings on the strut if the vehicle is of electronic ride control type, remove the suspension position sensor link with the electrical connector from the bottom of the strut. Place a significant pen mark at a specific area to help in the alignment of the camber of the strut each time it is reattached, then set the nuts and bolts joining the strut to the knuckle aside and knock the bolts out with hammer and punch. Slowly and gently pull the strut apart from the steering knuckle do not damage the brake hose. Loosen and take off the cap on the centre of the strut assembly using a Torx-bit and ratchet, place the strut damper shaft in a position where it cannot return, and loosen the engine compartment strut-to-body nut before pulling out the strut. There are some telltale signs of strut failure such as the strut body which should be checked for leakage, dents or cracks, the coil spring should be examined for chipped or cracked coating as well as deterioration on the spring seat. If there are such concerns, go on and dismantle the strut as illustrated in the following steps. For installation, position the strut assembly into the fender well and position it into the shock tower and fasten it tightly with the help of the mounting nut. Screw the steering knuckle into the strut flange bolts and at the same time, tighten the nut on the bolts until the marks made earlier align. Screw on the brake hose and ABS harness back, follow this is reconnecting the stabilizer bar link and in models with electronic suspension, the suspension position link. Last, fit the wheel and the bolts/t nuts that came with the wheel, lower the car, set the nuts on the bolts and tighten, then tighten the upper nut on the mounting, and check the front wheel alignment on the car.
