    Q:
How do you remove and install a steering wheel on Buick Century? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the steering wheel, first disconnect the battery ground and unplug the horn wire harness from the steering column. For vehicles with a standard or wood-rim wheel, remove the center cap and three screws, then take out the contact, insulator, and spring. For those with a bar type horn actuator, unscrew the actuator from the underside of the steering wheel, unhook the lead harness plug, and remove the actuator assembly. Loosen the steering wheel retainer nut, then install a suitable steering wheel puller and pull the wheel up to the nut before removing the puller, nut, and steering wheel. When installing, align the location marks on the steering wheel and shaft, then install the wheel and tighten the nut to 30 ft. lbs. Reinstall the horn button or actuator assembly. For tilt and telescope columns, remove the pad to access the horn button, unfasten the horn wire, loosen and remove the steering wheel retainer nut, and use a puller to detach the wheel from the column. After disconnecting the battery ground, lift the pad from the column, disconnect the horn wire, and push the locking lever counterclockwise for full release. Mark the lock plate-to-locking lever position, remove the plate and lever, then remove the steering wheel retaining nut using a puller. For installation, insert a set screw into the upper shaft at the fully extended position, install the steering wheel while ensuring proper alignment, and tighten the nut to 30 ft. lbs. Remove the set screw, install the plate assembly finger-tight, position the locking lever, and secure the attaching screws. Align the pad assembly with the steering wheel and install the retaining screws before reconnecting the battery and ensuring the locking lever functions correctly. For cars with air bags, after ensuring the ignition is in the LOCK position, disconnect the battery ground cable, remove the module-to-steering wheel screws with a special tool, lift the module, disconnect the horn wire and module wire connector, and avoid any repairs to the module. For installation, hold the module with the emblem in the lower right corner, loop the air cushion harness, install the module connector firmly, position the module, and secure it with screws before reconnecting the battery ground cable and checking the restraint indicator light.

    Q:
How do you remove and install a steering wheel on Buick Skylark? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the negative battery cable. On standard steering wheels, remove the 2 screws that secure the horn cover to the steering wheel. Then lift off the horn cover and disconnect the horn wire. On sport steering wheels, simply pry off the center cap. Using slip joint pliers, remove the steering wheel nut retainer. Be sure the steering wheel is unlocked, then remove the steering wheel nut. Mark the position of the steering wheel in relation to the steering shaft. Using a GM special tool or equivalent steering wheel puller, remove the steering wheel. Under no circumstances should the end of the shaft be hammered on, as impact of this nature could loosen the plastic injections which maintain the column's rigidity. Remove the horn lead, complete with spring from the steering column. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure with the following note: when installing the steering wheel on the shaft be sure the alignment marks on the steering wheel and shaft match.
