To troubleshoot a starting circuit malfunction, check the cleanliness and tightness of the battery cable connections, inspect the condition of the battery cables and replace any faulty ones, test the battery's condition, examine the starter solenoid wiring and connections using wiring diagrams, ensure that the starter mounting bolts are secure, inspect for any burnt engine compartment fuses while addressing the ignition switch circuit, verify gear position switch or clutch start circuit operation and if necessary test starter cut relay. In case the starter does not engage when turning on the ignition switch to start position, measure voltage at "S" terminal of starter solenoid comparing with battery voltage and consult wiring diagrams to check starting system fuses and starter relay. If your slow turning starter is evaluated, it should also evaluate cranking voltage and current draw as well as ensuring that battery meets specifications because clean terminals and clean cables. Finally, if you have voltage to the starter but it doesn't turn over check for bad ring gears by removing and bench testing a Starter/Solenoid assembly being sure to watch for solenoid operation as well as motor operation.
