    Q:
How to remove and install the Coil Springs on a Cadillac ElDorado and Fleetwood? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove and install the control arm on a Deville or Fleetwood, start by raising and supporting the vehicle. Remove the wheel and tire assembly, as well as the height sensor link or parking brake cable retaining clip. Take off the rear stabilizer bar from the knuckle bracket. Use a tool to cradle the control arm bushings and secure it to a jack. Raise the jack to remove tension from the control arm bolts. Place a chain around the spring and through the control arm for safety. Remove pivot bolt, nut, and washer from rear and front of control arm. Lower jack to pivot control arm downward in order to remove spring insulators, spring; also remove safety chain. To install inspect coil spring insulators if necessary; snap upper insulator onto coil spring; install lower insulator with coiled springs at right place; use tool on jack with cradle control arms into position and insert pivot bolts with nuts in them at this time. Reattach rear stabilizer bar as well as height sensor link or parking brake cable retaining clip; install wheel/tire assembly then lower vehicle using jacks ensuring that you exercise care while doing so. Finally tighten specified torque values of both upper/lower ball joint retaining nuts and stabilizer bar link bolt(s). For Eldorado and Seville models, follow similar steps but also support inner end of lower control arm by means of jack stand(s). Disconnecting stabilizer bar from shock absorber mounting point( s), removing inner lower control arm nuts/bolts followed by lowering entire unit thus releasing sprin g compression pressures are additional steps required before taking off coil springs which can be removed separately without need for excessive disassembly work . Pull down Control Arm And Remove Coil Spring . To do this correctly place coil springs /insulators in their usual locations where they should stay during an installation process always making sure that there is no further movement until they have been securely fitted into their proper place. Lift Lower Control Arm With Jack And Fasten Nuts And Bolts . Reconnect Shock Absorber And Stabilizer Link . Place jack under outer end of control arm and raise it to normal ride height position. They are tightened according to specified values by means of nuts / bolts . Install wheel/tire assembly and lower vehicle checking rear wheel alignment afterwards.
