    Q:
How to replace the spark plugs on Chevrolet Avalanche? Posted by Customer
    A:
To change the spark plugs in your vehicle, you will need some important tools like a ratchet, socket for spark plug, various extensions and gap gauge appropriate for gap adjustment. Though a specific plug wire removal tool is available, it is not required. Ensure you have a torque wrench to fit the new spark plugs tightly. The first step involves allowing the engine to cool off completely and then checking the new plugs for any defect as well as making sure that their gaps are adjusted using a gap gauge if necessary. The gap must match with the specification on Emissions Control Information Label. Remove one spark plug wire at a time by only holding and pulling on its rubber boot or by using the plug wire removal tool if needed. If there is compressed air available, blow out any debris around the spark plug hole to avoid contamination. A spark plug socket has to be used to remove the old spark plug turning it counterclockwise. Reviewing the old spark plugs helps determine an engine's state of affairs. Thinly coat threads of new plugs with anti-seize compound before installing them. Using your hands screw in a new one until it becomes impossible to turn any further then tighten using a torque wrench or ratchet. In situations where reaching plugs poses difficulty use short lengths of rubber tubing as threading tools. Lastly, connect each wire from the plug wires by twisting and then turn until it is locked into place and repeat this process moving on to another one at a time so that none of these wires get mixed up.

    Q:
How are spark plugs replaced on Chevrolet Colorado? Posted by Customer
    A:
The spark plugs are screwed into the head of inline engines and into the side of the V8 engines, while, in inline models, the air intake resonator must be removed to access the spark plugs. For V8 type of engines the spark plug wires should be disconnected in the following manner; one should twist and pull the wire boot while avoiding pulling the wire. Other very useful items are the special spark plug socket that has padding to protect the porcelain insulator, various form of extension, torque wrench to ensure right tightening of the spark plug and the gap checkers that are useful in determining the gaps on the new spark plugs. It is recommended to buy new plugs and pre-gap them; always replacing them one by one so that the right type of plug for the engine is acquired. After the engine cool off, remove the old plug and install the new one, inspect it for any defect and correct the gap as well. The separation is confirmed by placing an impedance probe in-between the electrodes; it must feel somewhat sticky when the wire is moved across it; slight modifications are possible by bending the side electrode. For inline engines, unscrew and disconnect the intake air resonator, then unscrew the screw and disconnect the ignition coil connectors on the valve cover and remove the bolts of each coil. On V8 engines, turn and pull the spark plug wire boots back yet do not pull the wires. Before removing it is advisable to blow through the spark plug hole with air pressure to eliminate any dirt then can use a socket and extension to remove the plugs. This should be done against a reference chart to deduce the condition of the engine and a thin layer of anti-seize compound should be applied to the threads of the new plugs; without spreading on the electrodes. Insert the new plugs by hands until they are tightened by hand then use torque wrench or ratchet to tighten the plugs while using a short piece of rubber hose while doing this to avoid cross threading. Reapply the same process to the other plugs, and after a replacement of the next steps, bolt the ignition coils as well as the air intake resonator back into place.

    Q:
What are the steps and tools necessary for replacing spark plugs on Chevrolet Corvette? Posted by Customer
    A:
The spark plugs are situated at the sides of the cylinder heads and often to change the spark plugs a spanner in the form of a spark plug socket which is in turn connected to an angle ratchet, various extension pieces and a spark plug gap gauge which is used to check the gaps of the new spark plugs; A torque wrench is desirable for the right tightening of the spark plug. Plugs are often best bought new and gauged to the required gap and it's important to remember that not all plugs are the same and getting the right size for the engine. Before you pull out any of the spark plug, ensure that the engine has cooled in order not to melt the aluminium heads of the engine and as you wait, you can inspect the new plugs and ensure that the plunges gap is correct. This is done with the use of a proper-thickness gauge whereby the electrodes are inserted and the gap is such that the gauge slides through the electrodes with a slight drag; if the gap is not correct then the spark plug should be changed since it cannot be adjusted. Start the removal of the fuel rail cover by disconnecting the fuel rail cover tab at both side of the engine, finally for safety, the removal of spark plug wire should be done when the engine is cold, this can be done by pulling the wire except for the boot in a twisting manner. If possible, blow out the spark plug hole with compressed air and wipe away any residue, put the spark plug socket over the spark plug and unscrew it anti-clockwise. Compare the removed spark plug with other spark plugs to evaluate the engine running condition, use a little of anti-seize compound on the plug threads, then screw into the threaded hole until it feels in place that it can no longer be rotated by hand; then tighten with a torque wrench or ratchet. A short length of rubber hose can be used to thread the plug into place without harm to the threads of the plug. Do this to the next plugs and, before connecting the spark plug wire, look for any damage to the boot and the wire before twisting the boot towards the plug.
