    Q:
How do you remove and install a driveaxle on Chevrolet Metro? Posted by Customer
    A:
To disconnect the driveaxle, the initial steps include; if the vehicle is a front wheel drive then; First, you need to take off the wheel cover, then set the hub nut then take off the front wheel and loosen the wheel lug nuts next, raise the front of the vehicle by use of car jack then support the automobile on two jackstands, then take off front wheel. Remove the oil from the transaxle as follows : After that, it is required to unlock the cotter pin of the driveaxle hub nut and to unscrew the nut, unstaking it in case of necessity. If you attempt to loosen a nut of the wheel stud to avoid the hub from turning while tightening, place the pry bar between the two. Located on the floor of the car on the opposite chassis rail, remove both bolts holding the stabilizer bar mounting bracket, then twist the ball joint stud away from the steering knuckle then pull down on the stabilizer bar. With an enormous pry bar, gently push the splined inner end of the driveaxle out of the differential side gear in the transaxle; there is negligible play from a circlip. Support the inner end with the wire and then pull on the outer end with the puller forcing the end of the u-joint out of the hub and the steering knuckle. Lift and retrieve the CV joints and cautiously unwind the driveaxle from the car. In the case of installation, you should pry off the old circlip from the inner end of the driveaxle and install a new one, the differential seal should be lubricated with multi-purpose grease. Lower the CV joint and swing the driveaxle up into position so that the splined end anchors into the differential side gear so that the stub axle is well seated. Apply a thin coat of grease on the outer CV joint splines and take out the strut/steering knuckle assembly and put the stub axle into the hub from the rearwards direction. Put the balljoint stud through the steering knuckle followed by tightening of the pinch bolt. Fit the hub nut to freeze the disc movement, then only tighten but do not apply torque values. This is done by gripping the inner CV joint housing to ascertain that it has locked onto the drive axle. Last, put on the wheel, tighten the wheel lug nuts by hand, then lower the vehicle, and then tighten the lug nuts and the hub nut with a torque wrench, if equipped with a staked nut then put a new cotter pin in place or restake the nut , and then put the center cap on.
