    Q:
How to remove steering shaft components? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove any steering shaft components, remember to reinstall them in the same orientation as one another to maintain synchronization with other components. Park the vehicle with the wheels straight and the ignition key turned to LOCK. Under the hood, mark the relationship of the upper steering shaft to the lower steering shaft and remove the fasteners securing them. Mark the relationship of the steering shaft coupler to the steering gear input shaft and remove the pinch bolt. Slide the lower portion of the steering shaft downwards and off the upper steering shaft, then remove the lower steering shaft and steering shaft coupler from the steering gear. The upper steering shaft can be removed from the shaft coming from the steering column if needed. To install, align the match-marks and tighten the coupler bolt/nut and the shaft-to-steering gear pinch bolt to the torque specifications.
