    Q:
How do you remove and install the driveshaft on Chevrolet Corvette? Posted by Customer
    A:
The driveshaft which is also referred to as the Drive line Support Assembly is enclosed in a separate structure which is fixed to the motor and transmission making it necessary to first remove the transmission so as to take out the driveshaft housing. First of all, safely lift the car on jack stands and set the gear shift lever on the 'neutral' position. Take out the fasteners to have the intermediate exhaust pipe and the driveshaft tunnel panel out of the car. Thus, on models with an automatic transmission, it is required first to remove the bell housing and then take out the access plug of the torque converter and bolts in the driveplate. Third, only remains to remove two driveshaft bearing plugs in front of the housing and to install two bolts M10-1.5X55 mm or longer, tightening them to correct value. After the removal of the bell housing access plug, remove the driveshaft hub clamp fastener and then loosen it. The position of the driveshaft front bearing position bolts should be tightened to the recommended torque value whenever it is assembled. Pull out this piece to unhook for the ability to remove the transmission from the car. For the models that are equipped with manual transmission, remove the clutch release cylinder from the front of driveshaft housing. On the automatic transmission models, pull the oil cooler lines out of the transmission and the driveshaft housing. Loosen the transmission to driveshaft housing bolts and then disconnect the driveshaft. To install, secure the driveshaft housing to the transmission using the fasteners that is provided. Replace the clutch release cylinder for the manual transmission models and fit the oil cooler hoses for the automatic transmission models. Screw in the transmission with just the match marks on the torque converter and the driveplate aligning. In concerns with the automatic transmission models, once the driveshaft housing and transmission have been fitted, bolt and tighten the torque converters bolts, now tighten the driveshaft hub clamp fastener only with hand to tighten it, replace the driveshaft bearing plug bolts followed by starting the vehicle, let the car idle for at least 10 minutes after it has been started and then switch off the engine then finally tighten the driveshaft hub clamp fastener and fit the Replace any fluids that you may have drunk in the process if you have not drained them already.
