    Q:
How do you replace the front Crankshaft Seal in inline engine on Chevrolet Colorado? Posted by Customer
    A:
Even with this setup version, be careful not to damage the crankshaft threads; if you have a hard time removing the pulley, it is advisable to suspend operation and get the special tools for crankshaft or consult a professional mechanic. The crankshaft end surface as well as the engine front cover have to be shielded. Special tools necessary are puller which can be obtained from GM as # J-44226 or equivalent, Crank shaft end protector can also be got from GM as #J-41816-2 or its equivalent, Pulley installer obtainable from GM as J-41478 or the equivalent and the seal installer can be got from GM as #J-44218 or its equivalent. On the other hand, we have a three jaw puller, deep socket for the crank shaft nose, and a thread pressed tool that screws into the crank shaft. The crank pulley is designed in such a way that it does not have a fixed position that it has to be installed in, and a new shim must always be placed each time the pulley is replaced. To pull the pulley you first have to remove the radiator and driving belt, and then unscrew the torque converter access plug in the pan to prevent the crank shaft from spinning while turning the crank shaft pulley bolt. Once the bolt is out, fit on the crankshaft end protector, fit on the puller and gently pull out the pulley and shim with the puller, which should grip only the hub of the pulley. You have to pry the oil seal out using the right tool for the purpose is among the essential steps. At installation check the pulley for its condition, lubricate the outside of the oil seal, not the inside, and install it into the front cover until flush with the surface. Put a new pulley shim on top of the crankshaft sprocket, jack up your vehicle safely, position the pulley on the crankshaft, and then settle it with the installer tool, do not use a hammer in the process. Last, do away with the installer tool, apply a pulley washer and bolt, then turn several times while someone else applies pressure using a screwdriver at the ring gear teeth in the reverse of the removal process.
