Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Remove the drivebelt. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the splash shield from below the engine compartment. Use a breaker bar and socket to remove the crankshaft pulley center bolt. Slide the puller off the nose of the crankshaft. Use a seal puller to remove the crankshaft front seal. Clean the seal bore and check it for nicks or gouges. Coat the lip of the new seal with clean engine oil and drive it into the bore with a seal driver or a socket slightly smaller in diameter than the seal. Using clean engine oil, lubricate the sealing surface of the hub. Install the crankshaft pulley/damper with a special installation tool. Install a new center bolt and tighten it to the specific torque. Reconnect the battery.

Support the cover on two blocks of wood and drive the seal out from the backside using a hammer and punch, being cautious not to scratch or distort the area where the seal fits to avoid leaks.

The old seal can be removed by using a screwdriver or hook tool to carefully pry it out, taking care not to damage the oil pump cover bore or the nose and sealing surface of the crankshaft. Alternatively, you can drill a small hole on each side of the seal and insert self-tapping screws to pull the seal out without prying.

Start installing the new seal by pressing it into the cylinder block. Once started, use a seal driver or a suitable socket of the correct size to drive the seal squarely into place, ensuring it is flush with the cylinder block and remains square.

Thoroughly clean the mounting surfaces of the oil pan, rear main oil seal housing, and engine block of old gasket material and sealer, using a rag soaked in lacquer thinner, acetone, or brake cleaner.

Ideally, a seal installation tool should be used to press the new seal into place.

The remainder of the installation follows the reverse order of removal.

Take out the timing belt and use a pin spanner to hold the crankshaft sprocket stationary while removing the crankshaft center bolt.

The purpose is to gain access to the rear main oil seal for replacement.

Using a seal driver or a socket with an outside diameter slightly smaller than that of the seal, carefully drive the new seal into place with a hammer, ensuring it is installed squarely and at the same depth as the original.

The remaining steps involve reversing the removal process.

Remove the crankshaft front oil seal with a seal puller or large screwdriver, taking care not to damage the crankshaft or seal bore.

Remove the drivebelt.

Use a special rear main oil seal installation tool or a socket of the same diameter as the seal to drive it in place.
