In order to replace the crankshaft pulley, the vehicle should be lifted and support on jack stands, and then remove the under vehicular splash shield. Next involves the removal of the drive belt and in the case of the 1.5L engine the drive belt tensioner. Tap or lock the pulley so that it stops then proceed to remove the center bolt of the crankshaft pulley. Check condition of rubber damper segment of the pulley; retain old bolt for use in the initial phase of installation if necessary. To do this use a crankshaft pulley remover or you can also use a standard crankshaft processor puller with the exhaust U-bolts then shift the crankshaft pulley off the crankshaft. If you have max out the above procedures and you needed to replace the crankshaft front oil seal then go to the next step. New pulley apply clean engine oil on the hub, align it with the oil pump rotor and the crankshaft flat and insert it. Replacing a particular bolt by a new one, secure the pulley and again tighten the bolt up to the recommended torque setting. The process of installing is the reverse of removal process and at the last reconnect the battery. For crankshaft front oil seal replace, then you have to remove the crankshaft pulley, to use a seal removal tool to take out the old seal, clean seal bore and check for any damages. Apply clean engine oil on the lip of new seal and screw it into the bore till it sits on the cylinder head timing chain cover with the fully open side directed into the engine. Before fitting the crankshaft pulley make sure that the sealing surface of the crankshaft pulley hub is greased.

Remove the crankshaft pulley. Note how the seal is installed-the new one must be installed to the same depth and facing the same way. Carefully pry the seal out of the cover. If you don't have a seal removal tool, thread a self tapping screw partially into the seal, then use pliers as a lever to pull it from the engine. If the seal is being replaced with the timing chain cover removed, support the cover on top of two blocks of wood and drive the seal out from the rear with a hammer and punch. Caution: Be careful not to scratch, gouge or distort the area that the seal fits into or a leak will develop. Installation: Apply clean engine oil or multi-purpose grease to the outer edge of the new seal, then install it in the cover with the lip (spring side) facing IN. Drive the seal into place with a seal driver or a large socket and a hammer. Make sure the seal enters the bore squarely and stop when the front face is at the proper depth. Note: Don't let oil get on the rubber part of the seal or on the part of the crankshaft pulley that touches the seal. The seal must be installed dry. Check the surface on the pulley hub that the seal rides on. If the surface has been grooved from long-time contact with the seal, the pulley should be replaced with a new one. Lubricate only the inside of the pulley hub with clean engine oil and install the crankshaft pulley. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal.

Remove the retaining bolts and take off the seal housing from the engine, being careful not to scratch the machined faces of the cylinder block, rear main seal housing, or oil pan while scraping old gasket material.

The final step is to install the crankshaft drive gear and timing belt.

Carefully pry the oil seal out of the cover using a seal puller or a large screwdriver, taking care not to damage the crankshaft or distort the cover. Wrapping electrical tape around the screwdriver tip can help prevent damage.

Begin by removing the transmission and the flywheel/driveplate.

A large socket, section of pipe, or blunt tool can be used to drive the seal squarely into the bore and flush with the rear cover.

Install the new seal in the cover with the lip facing inward. Drive the seal into place using a large socket and a hammer, or a piece of pipe if a large socket is unavailable, ensuring the seal enters the bore squarely and stops at the proper depth.

Carefully pry out the old seal using a special seal removal tool or a flat-blade screwdriver, taking care not to scratch or damage the crankshaft sealing surface or the bore of the lower crankcase and engine block to prevent oil leaks after the new seal is installed.

The driveplate and oil pan need to be removed.
