Q:
How do you remove the tie-rod end? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the tie-rod end, start by loosening the wheel lug nuts and raising the front of the vehicle on jackstands. Make sure to apply the parking brake and block the rear wheels for safety. Remove the wheel and then loosen the tie-rod end jam nut. Mark the relationship of the tie-rod end to the threaded portion of the tie-rod to ensure the toe-in setting is restored later. Loosen the nut from the tie-rod end ball stud and disconnect the tie-rod end from the steering knuckle arm using a puller. Remove the nut from the ball stud and discard it. Separate the tie-rod end from the steering knuckle and unscrew the tie-rod end from the tie-rod. To install the tie-rod end, thread it onto the tie-rod to the marked position and connect it to the steering arm. Install a new nut on the ball stud and tighten it to the proper torque specifications. Tighten the jam nut securely and then install the wheel. Lower the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts to the proper torque specifications. Finally, have the front-end alignment checked and adjusted if necessary.
