    Q:
How do you remove and install the Pushrod and rocker arm in V6 engine on Chevrolet Beretta? Posted by Customer
    A:
Firs remove the rocker arm covers by removing one rocker arm mounting nut at a time and then disconnecting rocker arms, nuts, and pivot balls. Keep each set of rocker arm components in separate plastic bags with labels. In case you just want to take out the pushrods, make sure that you loosen the rocker arm nuts and turn rocker arms for pushrod removal clearance. Pull the pushrods out and store them separately. Check all rocker arms for wearing, cracking or other damage particularly where valve stems come into contact with pushrods. Examine galls in each rocker arm pivot seat and faces of pivot ball for stress cracks or unusual wear patterns. Get rid of old or damaged rocker arms, replacing them with new ones while also fixing new pivot balls. The hole must be open at the end of each rocker arm next to the push rod. Push rods should be examined at their ends for fractures and excessive wear. Bend test each pushrod over glass plate. Apply lubricant to lower ends of all pushrods before reinstalling them at their original locations ensuring they bottom out in lifter socket. Grease the upper ends of valve stems as well as ends of the pushrods on lifter side. Grease also should be applied on ball pivots so as not to damage them before tightening the nuts which hold down the rocker arms, pivot balls and nuts (and ensuring that they engage properly). Finally install the rockers cover.

    Q:
How do you remove and reinstall Pushrod and rocker arm in 3.4L V6 engine on Chevrolet Equinox? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the components, first disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Next, remove the valve cover(s). Starting at the drivebelt end of one cylinder head, remove the rocker arm mounting bolts one at a time and detach the rocker arms, pivot balls, and pedestals, ensuring to keep each set of rocker arm components separately stored in marked plastic bags for proper reinstallation. The rocker arms have a pedestal mount captured by a metal sleeve inside, and while components can be separated by tapping the bolt out of the pedestal, they typically remain as an assembly. Remove the pushrods and store them separately to avoid mixing them up during installation, using a perforated cardboard box for organization and labeling the front end of the engine. Inspect each rocker arm for wear, cracks, and damage, particularly at the contact points with the pushrods and valve stems, and ensure the rollers operate freely and the pushrod end holes are open. Check the pushrods for cracks and excessive wear, rolling each across a piece of plate glass to detect any bends. For installation, lubricate the lower end of each pushrod with clean engine oil or moly-base grease and reinstall them in their original locations, ensuring they seat completely in the lifter socket. Apply moly-base grease to the ends of the valve stems and the upper ends of the pushrods, then install the rocker arm assemblies, tightening them to the specified torque while ensuring proper engagement of the pushrods in the rocker arms and correct positioning of the pedestal projections. Finally, install the valve covers, start the engine, and check for oil leaks and unusual sounds from the valve cover area.

    Q:
How do you remove and reinstall the Pushrod and Rocker Arm in 2.2L four cylinder engine on Pontiac Grand Prix? Posted by Customer
    A:
To eliminate the valve cover from the cylinder head, turn the rocker arm nuts at the frontal part of the cylinder head counterclockwise; to remove the pushrods only, the rocker arms must be turned sideways The rocker arm nuts, the pivot balls, and the rocker arms must be removed if all the parts are affected. In case only the pushrods are being removed, turn the rocker arms in a way that will enable the pushrods to be removed. All the nuts, the rocker arms and the pivot balls should be placed in containers that are properly labeled so that they can be fitted back in the right positions, the box in which the pushrods are placed should have perforations, and with writing on the box that indicates the front side of the engine. If the pushrod guides need to be removed one must mark them in order to know how to install them later. The common areas to look for defects in a rocker arm are wear, crack and damage especially at the part that may touch the pushrods and valve stem; make sure the hole at the end of the pushrods is also clear. Inspect the pivot location of each of the rocker arm for signs of wear or damage; replace any worn or damaged rocker arm or its pivot balls. Examine the pushrods for cracks and excessive wear, take each and roll it across a piece of plate glass and this will show any bending. During reassembly, apply clean engine oil or moly-base grease to the low ends of the pushrods before they are reinstalled to their prior positions and make sure they are firmly seated in the lifter shelf. Having placed the adjusting end of each pushrod over the upper end of the respective rocker arm, and having inserted the nut over each pushrod, you must then smear moly-base grease on the end of the valve stems and on the upper ends of the pushrods before you fit the rocker arm nuts. Fit the rocker arm assemblies onto the heads in the locations specified, fit the pivot balls into the holes in the rocker arms along with the nuts to secure it, using moly-base grease to protect the mating surfaces until such a point that adequate engine oil pressure is unavailable, then tighten all nuts to the prescribed torque.
