To take out the power steering pump, the main step that should be taken is the pulling of the negative cable of the battery. Subsequently, the upper fan should be removed together with the upper fan shroud and then the serpentine drivebelt should also be unplugged. To remove the pulley it is necessary to employ a special power steering pump pulley remover. If applicable, working on a 2003 through 2015 or later 4.8L, 5.3L, or 6.0L V8 engine remove the intermediate shaft from the steering gear. Place a drain pan under the power steering pump and then remove the pressure and return hoses from the rear of the pump and plug the hoses. Loosen this bolts and screws then drop the pump from the vehicle if necessary. For installation, rotate the pump and align it with the mounting bracket, tighten the mounting screws appropriately. Attach the hoses to the pump and screw tight the joints. The pulley has to be pressed onto the shaft using a special pulley installer tool; if unavailable, a homemade tool may be created using a long bolt and nut, washer and a socket machined to fit the shaft diameter of the pulley. Slide the pulley on to the shaft as far as it will go without going any further than the leading edge of the hub. Lastly, reverse the removal steps, add the recommended fluid to the power steering reservoir and lastly bleed the power steering system.
