Every 3000 miles or every three months it is recommended that a few drops of light oil or lock lubricant are applied to the hinge and latch assemblies on the doors, hood and tail gate. Also, the door latch strikers should be greased lightly so as to reduce the amount of friction and in the process reducing gear tooth wear. The door and tailgate locks should be lubricated with a spray on graphite lubricant.

Start out with the within door trim panel and the plastic watershield; the latter of which must not be ripped. Following this, undo the control rods from the connection near the door outside handle lock cylinder with the help of a screwdriver. If you will need the control rods, then you will have to remove that and also the door handle retaining screws and the slide the lock cylinder retaining clip. Subsequently, undo the screws that are used to fix the exterior handle assembly, then pull the latter upward and out. Pull the door lock rod out of the assembly, pop the retaining clip off the cylinder and pull the cylinder out. Go ahead and unscrew the door latch assembly mounting screws at the end of the door and pull out the control rods then take out the latch assembly. With regard to installation, the process is done in the reverse order to the removal process, and during the process grease is applied on the sliding surfaces of all the levers and springs.
