Q:
How do you remove the Steering Knuckle? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the driveaxle/hub, start by loosening the driveaxle/hub nut and the wheel lug nuts. Then, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the wheel and the brake caliper with its bracket, supporting them with a piece of wire. Take off the brake disc from the hub and remove the wheel speed sensor. Mark the strut to the steering knuckle and loosen the strut-to-steering knuckle bolt nuts. Separate the tie-rod end from the steering knuckle arm and remove the balljoint-to-steering knuckle pinch bolt to separate the balljoint from the steering knuckle. Remove the driveaxle/hub nut and push the driveaxle from the hub, supporting the end with a piece of wire. Finally, remove the strut-to-knuckle bolts and separate the steering knuckle from the strut. To install, guide the knuckle and hub assembly into position, inserting the driveaxle into the hub. Push the knuckle into the strut flange and install the bolts and nuts without tightening them yet. Connect the balljoint to the knuckle and tighten the pinch bolt nut. Attach the tie-rod end to the steering knuckle arm and tighten the strut bolts/nuts and the tie-rod end nut to the specified torque values. Install the wheel speed sensor, brake disc, caliper mounting bracket, and caliper. Tighten the driveaxle/hub nut securely. Install the wheel and lug nuts, lower the vehicle, and tighten the lug nuts and driveaxle hub nut to the specified torque values. Finally, have the front-end alignment checked and adjusted if necessary.
