    Q:
How do you remove the front heater on Chevrolet C1500 and K1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the front heater on 1988 through 1994 models, start by disconnecting the negative cable at the battery. Then, remove the coolant reservoir and place a drain pan under the heater core. Disconnect the coolant hoses from the core and plug them to prevent coolant from leaking. Remove the mounting screws/nuts from the heater housing in the engine compartment. Next, remove the glovebox liner and door, and label and disconnect the heater controls. Disconnect and remove the computer and mounting bracket, as well as the radio antenna cable if equipped. Remove the kick panel and detach the right lower corner of the dash panel. Pull the heater assembly to the rear and disconnect the wiring harness. Lower the heater housing to the floor and remove it from the truck. Detach the core restraining straps and remove the core. For 1995 and later models, start by disconnecting the negative battery cable and draining the engine coolant. Disconnect the wiring connectors at the heater blower motor and remove the center duct from under the instrument panel. Remove the kick panel from the right side and the cover from the blower motor. Remove the motor from the blower assembly and disconnect the steering column, allowing it to drop slightly. Remove the instrument panel bolts and roll the instrument panel upwards. Remove the coolant recovery reservoir from the engine compartment and disconnect the heater hoses from the firewall connections. Remove the screw under the cowl near the evaporator pipe and the four screws and two nuts on the engine side that retain the heater case to the cowl. Remove the heater case from under the instrument panel and the seven screws retaining the cover to the case. Remove the heater core. For rear auxiliary heater on Suburban models, disconnect the negative cable from the battery and remove the right-hand rear quarter inside trim panel and wheel opening liner. Place a drain pan under the heater core fittings and disconnect the coolant hoses from the core. Disconnect the blower motor wiring and remove the drain valve. Remove the heater housing mounting bolts and nuts and separate the housing. Remove the clips/nuts and separate the housing, then remove the heater core.

    Q:
What is the function of the heater in a Chevrolet C1500 and K1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
The heater in a vehicle circulates engine coolant through a small radiator called the heater core located in the cab. Air is drawn in through an opening in the cowl and then blown by the blower motor through the heater core to pick up heat. The heated air is mixed with varying amounts of unheated air to control the temperature and is then blown into the cab. Different doors in the heater control the flow of air to the floor, instrument louvers, and defroster outlets.

    A:
Different doors in the heater control the flow of air to the floor, instrument louvers, and defroster outlets.
