Make sure the ignition key is turned to OFF. If removing the air filter box cover along with the intake duct, disconnect the electrical connector from the MAF/(IAT) sensor. Use a small screwdriver to pull up the CPA clip on the connector before disconnecting it. Loosen the hose clamp screws at the air filter box and pull the hose free. If removing the resonator over the throttle body along with the duct hose, remove the pushpin securing the duct resonator to the engine and disconnect the PCV hose from the resonator. Remove the duct resonator. Installation is the reverse of removal. Remove the air intake duct. Remove the pushpin at the front of the box and two mounting nuts at the rear of the filter box. Remove the filter box. Inspect the rubber grommet before installing the air filter box. If it's cracked, torn or otherwise damaged, replace it. Make sure that the air filter box locator pin is correctly seated in its grommet. Fresh air inlet duct and resonator assembly Removal: Loosen the right front wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the right front wheel. Remove the right lower splash shield. Remove the resonator mounting bolt and pushpin fasteners, then remove the resonator by pulling it off the fresh air inlet duct. Remove the fresh air inlet duct. For 2.2U2.4L HHR models, verify that the ignition key is turned to OFF. Using pliers, squeeze the PCV hose clamp, slide the clamp back, then disconnect the hose from the intake duct. Loosen the hose clamps at the air filter box and the throttle body, then pull the duct free. Disconnect the fresh air hose from the fender opening. Loosen the hose clamp screw at the air filter box and pull the duct free from the filter box. Remove the fresh air inlet duct. Disconnect the electrical connector from the MAF sensor. Remove the air intake duct. Remove the fresh air inlet duct. Lift the box up and off of the ball studs. Remove the filter box. Inspect the rubber grommet before installing the air filter box. If it's cracked, torn or otherwise damaged, replace it. Make sure that the air filter box grommets are correctly seated on to the ball studs. For 2.2U2.4L ION models, if removing the Air Filter Box cover along with the air intake duct, disconnect the electrical connector from the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor. Disconnect the PCV hose from the air intake duct. Loosen the hose clamp screws at the Air Filter Box and pull the hose free. Loosen the hose clamp securing the duct resonator to the throttle body and remove the duct resonator. Remove the air intake duct. Remove the Air Filter Box mounting nut at the front of the Air Filter Box. Remove the Air Filter Box. Inspect the rubber grommet before installing the Air Filter Box. If it's cracked, torn, or otherwise damaged, replace it. Make sure that the Air Filter Box locator pin is correctly seated in its grommet. For the fresh air inlet duct and resonator assembly, loosen the right-front wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the right front wheel. Remove the right-front fender well liner. Remove the resonator mounting bolt and remove the resonator by pulling it off the fresh air inlet duct. Remove the fresh air inlet duct. On 2.0L models, the air intake duct is of canister shape and is mounted to the engine near the transaxle end. Loosen the hose clamp at the top and bottom of the duct, then detach the hoses. Remove the three mounting nuts on the engine and remove the air intake duct. On non-turbocharged models, remove the air intake duct. On turbocharged models, remove the MAF sensor. Loosen the hose clamps on the duct between the Air Filter Box and the intake resonator. Remove the three nuts securing the Air Filter Box, then detach the Air Filter Box. For the fresh air inlet duct, loosen the left front wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the wheel. Remove the left front inner fender splash shield. Remove the bolt and push fasteners securing the duct, then remove the duct. Installation is the reverse of removal.
