Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and remove the drivebelt. For V6 engines, take off the oil filler cap and engine covers, then raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands while removing the under-vehicle splash shield. Drain the engine coolant, then remove the coolant pipe front and rear fasteners, followed by the pipe-to-thermostat housing fasteners to detach the pipe from the thermostat housing. Push back the protective cover from the alternator's battery terminal, remove the nut, and disconnect the battery cable and electrical connector from the alternator. Remove the alternator's upper and lower mounting bolts to take out the alternator. For V8 engines, remove the air filter housing, then repeat the process of disconnecting the battery cable and electrical connector from the alternator before removing the mounting fasteners. If replacing the alternator, bring the old one to ensure the new or rebuilt unit matches in appearance and specifications, including electrical terminals and identification numbers. Be aware that many new or rebuilt alternators may not come with a pulley, so check the store's policy on pulley swaps, as some may offer this service for free. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring the alternator mounting bolts are tightened securely, and reconnect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery while checking the charging voltage to verify proper operation of the alternator.
