For turbocharged engines, the removal process differs. Many exhaust specialist shops can replace catalytic converters at a lower cost than purchasing a new one from a dealer. Begin by raising the vehicle and securely supporting it on jackstands. Disconnect the electrical connector from the related oxygen sensor and remove the sensor. Support the other sections of the exhaust system as necessary. Remove the retaining nuts from the front and rear catalyst mounting flanges, applying penetrating oil to the fasteners and allowing it to soak in before attempting removal. Next, remove the catalyst and pull off the gaskets. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring to replace any rusted or damaged fasteners along with the gaskets.
