The air filler is installed at the left engine compartment and it is positioned inside a housing. If the housing has two parts, then to carry out the removal of the air filter you need to open it, for this separate the fasteners or open the clips and then remove the halves of the air filter housing and take out the air filter element. For V6 and non-supcharged V8 engines, there are clips that have to be 'pulled' and 'unlatched' which in effect detaches the filler housing cover; for supercharged V8 engines, there are 'cover fasteners' that have to be removed so that the filter element 'lifts out'. Check the exterior aspect of the filter if it is dirty then replace it but if a little dusty the filter should be cleaned by blowing compressed air from the back to the front. This is a pleated paper type filter, it can neither be washed nor oiled, and if it cannot be cleaned to an acceptable level then it should be replaced. Be careful not to put anything into the housing while the cover is off. One must under no circumstances drive the vehicle with the air filler unscrewed, this results in high consumption of the engine and cause fire outbreaks. Clean out the inside of the housing and then install the new filter into its position with regard to the housing. Last but not the least, make sure the first half of the housing is properly adjusted and fasten it with the help of clips or screws.
