    Q:
What are the steps and precautions involved in replacing the timing chain and Timing Sprocket on Chevrolet Cruze? Posted by Customer
    A:
The timing system is very intricate and even a single error can result in casing severe damages to the engine, therefore, it is advisable to only professionals with a considerable level of expertise perform the task, or otherwise, seek professional advice. First of all, begin with the separation of the negative terminal of the battery and the taking out of the spark plug. Next, unscrew the valve cover and then drain the oil from the engine and also learnt off the drivebelt together with its tensioner. For the 2015 and the earlier models, it is necessary to remove the timing chain cover and squeeze the timing chain tensioner then unbolt the upper and side timing chain guides. Then pull out the timing chain and crankshaft sprocket and the timing chain tensioner should be removed next. When removing the camshaft sprockets, it is advisable to use a wrench to hold the camshaft firmly as you remove the bolts use for fixing the sprockets. For 2016 and later models the step includes turning the again crankshaft pulley, installing the camshafts with a special tool and lifting the timing chain cover. In many designs lock the tensioner into its working position and remove it together with the timing chain guides. Sanitize all components of the circuit or clients' items, look for signs of wear and tear and address any doubtful parts. You should also turn the crankshaft during installation to ensure that it is not very rigid when the engine is started. For 2015 and earlier models, the camshaft sprockets should be slid on the camshafts, then the RTV sealant should be applied and the timing chain and tensioner should be fitted with all the fasteners tightened to the prescribed torque. When working with the 2016 and later models put the timing chain with the sprockets on then place the tensioner and guides in place then make sure all the timing marks line up. Lastly, fit the timing chain cover, the valve cover, replace the oil filter, fill the crankcase and the cooling system, reconnect the battery and start the engine and check for any sign of leakage.
