To begin, remove the upper radiator cover, which is secured by plastic retainers at the front edge and fasteners at the rear; on later models, the latch must be unbolted first. Next, scribe a line around the latch for alignment during installation, detach the latch retaining bolts from the radiator support, and remove the latch. Disengage the hood release cable from the latch assembly and disconnect the electrical connector if the vehicle has the remote start feature. The installation process is the reverse of removal. Disconnect the hood release cable from the latch assembly, then attach a piece of stiff wire to the end of the cable, trace it back to the firewall, and detach all cable retaining clips. In the passenger compartment, remove the knee bolster and detach the fasteners securing the hood release lever, pulling the cable rearward into the compartment. Pull the old cable into the compartment until the stiff wire is visible; a grommet insulates the cable hole in the firewall, and the new cable should come with a new grommet. If necessary, slip the old grommet onto the new cable, detach the old cable from the wire, and attach the new cable. From the engine compartment side of the firewall, pull the wire through the cable hole, and then push the grommet into place from the passenger compartment, ensuring it is fully seated in the hole.
