Remove the headlight housing and the access cover from the headlight housing. Twist the bulb holder counterclockwise and withdraw the bulb holder and connector from the housing. Unplug the electrical connector from the bulb holder. Handling the new bulb only by the bulb holder portion, reconnect the electrical connector, and insert the new bulb/holder into the housing. Twist the holder clockwise to lock it in place, then install the cover. Installation is the reverse of the removal.

In an effort to remove the left headlight bulb, one has to first remove the fan control module. Subsequently, if there is a locking tab, you will need to pull down on the tab in order to unplug the electrical connector from the headlight assembly. To replace the bulb simply turn it one-fourth of a turn counterclockwise and pull it out of the assembly. When placing the bulb make sure that the three tabs of the headlight mounting flange fit into the three groves on the mounting base and then clockwise turn the bulb. In terms of installation the process is the reverse of removal.

Detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, ensuring that the lockout feature of the Theft lock audio system is turned off if equipped. If applicable, raise the flap or remove the plastic cover over the headlight to access the bulbs. For some models, it may be necessary to remove screws or nuts and pull the headlight assembly forward; on 1997 and later Buick models, pull up the two retaining clips to release the headlight housing, while on 1997 and later Grand Prix models, remove the two mounting screws, pull the headlight housing forward, and release two clips at the back. Note that on Grand Prix models with a center light bar, both the center light bar and the side marker light must be removed to allow for headlight housing removal. Unplug the electrical connector and twist the bulb lock ring counterclockwise to remove the headlight bulb holder assembly, ensuring not to pull the bulb out of the holder as they are sold as a single unit. Installation follows the reverse order of removal.

Reinstall the headlight housing and radiator support cover.

Start by removing the radiator grille for sealed beam-type headlights. Then, carefully remove the retainer screws without disturbing the adjusting screws. Pull the headlight out enough to unplug the connector and remove the headlight.

Once you have access, twist the bulb holder counterclockwise and remove it along with the connector from the housing.

Remove the dust cap from the headlamp motor and turn the knob counterclockwise to raise the headlamp assembly by hand.

Take off the retaining ring.

Remove the headlight housing fasteners.

To install the headlight, plug the connector in, position the headlight, and secure it with the retainer and screws.

For composite headlights, open the hood and remove the two headlight retainers to drop the assembly forward and down. Reach behind the assembly to turn the bulb holder counterclockwise and unplug it.

Start by opening the hood to access the bulb from behind the headlight housings. In some cases, you may need to remove the radiator grille to gain access.

The air filter housing needs to be removed.
