Disconnect the rack and pinion gear and then the tie rods together with the aid of a wrench for the lock plate before unscrewing the inner tie rod bolts. Disconnect the hose connections by loosening a flare nut wrench at the rack and pinion assembly. From the rack housing, with the right mounting grommet cut off both boot clamps and throw them away. Push the cylinder end of the boot to the middle of the rack and pinion gear to reveal the boot groove, insert a rubber band into the groove and remove the boot over the rack and pinion gear. Slide a new clamp on the left end of the boot, put the boot retaining bushing into the end of the boot, apply multi-purpose grease onto the internal circumference of the bushing then slide the boot over the rack and pinion housing. Insert the washers into the center housing cover, make sure that the bolt holes in the center housing fit into the rack guide assembly and tighten the two tie-rod bolts so that they are straight. Tighten the left side boot clamp, place the right end of the boot under the housing and remove the rubber band and place the left side of the boot into the groove and then bolt the clamp. After installing hydraulic lines, the tie-rods should be installed by undoing the lock plate and the inner tie rod bolts then tightening the latter to the recommended torque value. Last but not least, by use of an Allen wrench tighten the mounting grommet and this leads to the installation of the rack and pinion assembly.
