To remove and install the throttle body on 4.5 and 4.9L engines, first relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the negative battery cable. Raise the hood, install fender covers, and remove the air cleaner assembly. Detach electrical connectors for the idle speed control motor, throttle position sensor, fuel injectors, EFE, and any other necessary components. Remove the throttle return spring, cruise control, throttle linkage, and downshift cable, then disconnect all necessary vacuum lines, fuel inlet and return lines, brake booster line, MAP sensor hose, and AIR hose, using a back-up wrench on metal lines. Remove the PCV, EVAP, or EGR hoses from the throttle body, then take out the three throttle body mounting screws to remove the throttle body and gasket. Installation follows the reverse order of removal, ensuring to tighten the throttle body retaining bolts to 14 ft. lbs. (19 Nm) and using new gaskets and O-rings. Ensure cruise and shift cables do not hold the throttle above the idle stop, reset the IAC by slightly depressing the accelerator, running the engine for 3-4 seconds, and turning the ignition off for 10 seconds. For the 4.6L engine, disconnect the negative battery cable, vacuum manifold at the throttle body, and vacuum hoses at the cruise control servo. Disconnect the cruise control cable at the servo, remove the cruise control servo and bracket at the throttle body, and disconnect the TP sensor and fuel pipe retainer at the ISC bracket. Remove the throttle body from the intake manifold and the ISC motor and bracket from the throttle body. To install, attach the ISC motor and bracket to the throttle body, position a new throttle body O-ring seal with petroleum jelly, and install the throttle body to the intake manifold, tightening to 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm). Connect the fuel pipe retainer to the ISC bracket, the TP sensor to the throttle body, and the cruise control cable to both the throttle body and the servo, tightening all retaining bolts to 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm). Finally, connect the vacuum manifold to the throttle body and the vacuum hoses to the cruise control servo, install the intake manifold with the throttle body, and perform the TP Sensor/Idle Learn procedure.
