While replacing and installing the timing belt, be very careful, as any error can lead to serious engine problems. Never rotate the crankshaft counterclockwise and do not try to turn it using the camshaft sprocket bolt. More so, ensure that no bending, twisting or turning the timing belt inside out occurs; keep it away from oil, coolant or fuel. Do not use the timing belt tension to hold the camshaft or crankshaft while installing pulley bolts. The process involves discharging refrigerant and removing hose from suction pipe for models with AC system. Thereafter, disconnect negative battery cable, support vehicle on jackstands loosen locknuts and adjust valve adjustment screws on 8-valve engines set parking brake block rear wheels. Remove drive belts, fan, fan shroud, water pump pulley and crankshaft pulley bolts (if removing crankshaft center bolt follow specific instructions).
