If the bearings are within the range then they can be fitted whereas, if not, they should be removed and replaced with accurately standard bearings and it should be made sure that the upper and lower bearings are interchanged together.

Turn the engine so the piston is at the bottom of its stroke.

The first step is to install the pistons in the engine.

Push the piston/connecting rod assembly out through the top of the cylinder and place it next to its rod cap in the sequenced work area, repeating the process for the remaining cylinders while reusing the tubing.

Ensure the cylinder bores are perfectly clean by wiping the cylinder walls several times with light engine oil and a clean, lint-free cloth.

Verify that the piston/rod assembly is correctly positioned by noting that most pistons will be marked with an 'F' or a drilled-out area indicating the piston should be installed with these marks toward the front of the engine, and the rod bearing tang slots should be towards the outside of the engine block once installed.

Place the rings in their 'installed' order adjacent to the piston/connecting rod on the numbered work area.

To prevent such failures, thorough cleaning of all parts and regular oil and filter changes are crucial.
