    Q:
How should the hub and bearing assembly be replaced if worn or damaged on Chevrolet Colorado? Posted by Customer
    A:
The hub and bearing assembly is sealed-for-life and must be replaced as a unit if worn or damaged. For 2008 and earlier models, the ABS wheel speed sensor is an integral part of the hub/bearing assembly, which is also replaced as a unit. To begin removal, loosen the front wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands before removing the wheel. For 4WD models, remove the hub cover and unscrew the driveaxle/hub nut using a socket and large breaker bar, bracing a large prybar across two wheel studs or inserting a large screwdriver through the center of the brake caliper to prevent the hub from turning. Discard the nut and use a new one during installation. Next, remove the brake caliper and hang it out of the way with wire, then remove the caliper mounting bracket. For 2008 and earlier models, disconnect the ABS sensor electrical connector, mark the position of the bolts securing the ABS bracket, remove the bolts, and tie the harness and bracket aside. For 2009 and later models, remove the ABS wheel speed sensor from the steering knuckle, and on 4WD models, the steering knuckle must be removed for access to the hub/bearing assembly mounting bolts. Remove the hub and brake disc from the spindle as an assembly, taking off the bolts that secure the hub and bearing assembly to the steering knuckle, which will also remove the splash shield. With the disc/hub assembly on a flat surface, remove the bolts securing the disc to the hub. For installation, clean the mating surfaces on the hub and brake disc, assemble the disc and hub, and install the bolts, tightening them to the specified torque. Install the hub and bearing/brake disc assembly along with the disc splash shield to the steering knuckle, tightening the bolts to the specified torque. Complete the installation by reversing the removal procedure, installing the wheel, lowering the vehicle, and tightening the lug nuts to the specified torque.
