Memory-savers are devices that can be used to avoid problems when disconnecting the battery. They are typically plugged into the cigarette lighter and connected to a spare battery. This allows the vehicle battery to be disconnected from the electrical system while the memory-saver provides sufficient current to maintain audio unit security codes, PCM memory, and power to always hot circuits such as the clock and radio memory circuits.

Open the battery box cover and loosen the nut attaching the negative battery cable terminal to the battery. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. Slide open the mega-fuse cover towards the rear of the vehicle and disconnect the cable from the positive battery terminal. Open the battery positive cable cover and disconnect the positive (+) battery cable terminal, then unclip the mega-fuse box and move it out of the way. Remove the two bolts and nut and remove the battery cover hold-down. Use a screwdriver to release the tab and detach the connector from the battery cover. Pull up and remove the battery cover. Remove the battery hold-down clamp. Lift out the battery.

Protective safety glasses should be worn, and contact with skin, eyes, or ingestion of the electrolyte, which contains corrosive sulfuric acid, must be avoided.
