    Q:
How to remove and replace the vibration damper in 2.3L four cylinder (Quad-4) engine for a Chevrolet Beretta? Posted by Customer
    A:
Negative battery terminal cable should be removed. On the Delco Loc II audio system equipped models, make certain the lockout feature is deactivated prior to any process that involves disconnecting the battery. After that, the drive belt should be removed. With the parking brake applied and the shifter in Park (automatic) or in gear (manual), raise the front of the vehicle and securely support it on jackstands. Remove The bolt from the front of the crankshaft. Most likely, a breaker bar will have to be used because the bolt is very tight. In case there is no special tool, insert a bar through a hole in the damper to keep the crankshaft from turning over. Harmonic Balancer should be removed from crankshaft using a puller. If you use a jaw-type puller that releases force onto outer edge, this will ruin the balancer; use a bolt-type puller which applies force on balancer hub instead. The oil seal will need to be checked for wear and replaced if necessary. Thin layer of clean multi-purpose grease needs to be applied on Harmonic Balancer hub's seal contact surface. Place balancer on crank shaft and slide through seal until bottom of sprocket is reached by it. Note that slot (keyway) in hub must align with Woodruff key at end of crankshaft. Crankshaft bolt can also be employed for pressing balancer into position. Tighten down on crankshaft bolt thoroughly but carefully because too much force could break something; therefore, you have permission to exercise caution while driving! The remaining steps are just as they were before taking it off.

    Q:
How to remove and install a vibration damper in V6 engine for a Chevrolet Beretta? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. On models equipped with the Delco Loc II audio system, make sure the lockout feature is turned off before performing any procedure that requires disconnecting the battery. Loosen the lug nuts on the right front wheel. Raise the vehicle and securely support it on jackstands. Remove the right front tire. Remove the right front inner fender splash shield. Remove the right front inner shield bolts to gain access to the harmonic balancer. Remove the serpentine drivebelt. On models equipped with an automatic transaxle, remove the driveplate cover and position a large screwdriver in the ring gear teeth to prevent the crankshaft from turning while an assistant removes the harmonic balancer-to-crankshaft bolt. On models equipped with a manual transaxle, engage high gear and apply the brakes while an assistant removes the harmonic balancer bolt. The bolt is usually very tight, so use a large breaker bar and a six-point socket. Use a bolt-type puller to remove the balancer from the crankshaft. Leave the Woodruff key in place at the end of the crankshaft. Installation is the reverse of removal. Make sure to apply engine oil or multi-purpose grease to the seal contact surface of the balancer hub. If it is not lubricated, the seal lip could be damaged and oil leakage may occur. Align the balancer hub keyway with the Woodruff key. Tighten the harmonic balancer-to-crankshaft bolt. Reinstall the remaining parts in the reverse order of removal.
