How to install a crankshaft balancer on V8 engine on Chevrolet Avalanche? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, then apply the parking brake. Remove the drivebelt, cooling fan, and shroud assembly. Working under the vehicle, remove the stone shield from below the engine if equipped. Remove the starter motor. Have an assistant wedge a large screwdriver or prybar into the driveplate ring gear teeth, then loosen the harmonic balancer pulley center bolt. Pull the balancer off the crankshaft with a puller. Position the harmonic balancer pulley/balancer on the crankshaft and slide it on as far as it will go. Using the harmonic balancer installation tool, press the harmonic balancer pulley/balancer onto the crankshaft. Install the old harmonic balancer bolt and tighten the crankshaft bolt to the proper torque specifications. Remove the old bolt and measure the distance from the snout of the crankshaft to the balancer hub. When properly installed, the balancer hub should extend 3/32 to 11/64-inch past the crankshaft snout. If the measurement is incorrect, reinstall the balancer installation tool and press the balancer on the crankshaft until the measurement is correct. Install a new harmonic balancer bolt and tighten it to the torque and angle of rotation specifications. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal.

    Q:
How to remove and install a vibration damper on 4.3L V6 engine on Chevrolet Avalanche? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the engine cooling fan, then remove the engine drivebelt. Remove the bolts and separate the crankshaft pulley from the harmonic balancer. Remove the large harmonic balancer-to-crankshaft bolt. To keep the crankshaft from turning, remove the starter and have an assistant wedge a large screwdriver against the ring gear teeth. A chain or strap wrench can also be used to secure the balancer. Using the proper puller, detach the harmonic balancer from the crankshaft. Be careful not to lose the Woodruff key. Make a written note of any weights used in the balancer, their locations, and lengths. These weights must be installed in exactly the same way when the balancer is installed. If a new harmonic balancer is being installed, transfer the weight(s) to the new balancer in the proper location(s). Make sure the woodruff key is in place, then position the harmonic balancer on the crankshaft and slide it on as far as it will go. Use a small dab of RTV sealant on the keyway of the balancer before installation. Note that the slot (keyway) in the hub must be aligned with the Woodruff key at the end of the crankshaft. Using a harmonic balancer installation tool, press the balancer onto the crankshaft. Note that the crankshaft bolt can also be used to press the crankshaft balancer into position, but when doing so, use a liberal amount of clean engine oil on the bolt threads to prevent galling. Make sure the raised crown of the balancer bolt washer is away from the crankshaft. Tighten the crankshaft bolt to the torque specifications. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal.

How to install a crankshaft balancer in V8 engine on Chevrolet Colorado? Posted by Customer
    A:
This procedure needs a special balancer installation tool and a new harmonic balancer bolt therefore one should read through the whole process and source for the tools and items needed. First aspect is to remove the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, second is to lift the front side of the car and place jacks to support the car. Leverage off the drivebelt, and the cooling fan and shroud assembly. Crawler equipped with stone shield, working under the vehicle, remove the stone shield under the engine room, and then remove the starter motor. A helper should insert a large screwdriver or prybar between the harmonic only pulley and ply the center bolt of the driveplate ring gear, to widen it. Utilize a puller to pull the balancer off the crankshaft which give a bit attention to the jaws of the puller that they should only touch the hub part of the balancer and not the outer ring. ftp://Small insert a small steel tube with a flat shoulder or an Allen's head big bolt to fit the taper of the puller to prevent damaging the thread of the crankshaft. As for the installation, put the crankshaft pulley/harmonic balancer over the crankshaft and push it as far as you can. This installation tool should be used to push the crankshaft pulley/harmonic balancer onto the crankshaft. Insert the original harmonic balancer bolt and torque it to the prescribed value, remove the bolt and the actual measurement should be done between the crankshaft snout and the balancer hub; it should just protrude 3/32 to 11/64-inch beyond the crankshaft snout when installed. If the measurement is off then reinstall the balancer installation tool and pound on the balancer unit until the measurement is correct is. Last but not the least, replace the harmonic balancer bolt with a new one and torque it to the designated torque along with rotating it to the correct angle as a end of the process revert back to the initial process of removal.

    Q:
How to install a crankshaft balancer in V8 engine on Chevrolet Trailblazer? Posted by Customer
    A:
This procedure must be done with the aid of a balancer installation tool from the tool maker and a new harmonic balancer bolt. First of all, take out the cable in question starting with the negative terminal of the battery. Lift the front of the vehicle and put it on jackstands and then engage the parking brake. I want to take out the drivebelt and the cooling fan. If fitted, work under the vehicle and unbolt the stone shield below the engine. A strap wrench is used round the harmonic balancer pulley to grip it and stead it while the harmonic balancer pulley center bolt is loosened by a breaker bar socket and if no strap wrench is available a chain-type wrench can be used with a section of old drivebelt or rag wrapped round the harmonic balancer. Remove the harmonic balancer from the crankshaft using a three jaw puller without having the region of the jaws coming into contact with the outer ring of the harmonic balancer but the center hub. Place a long Allen-head bolt into the crankshaft nose where the tapered tip of the puller has to go in since the threads of the crankshaft could be damaged easily. Fit the crankshaft pulley/harmonic balancer to the crankshaft so that the slot in the hub fits round the Woodruff key fitted to the end of the crankshaft. Crank the new harmonic balancer into place using harmonic balancer installation tool 269-001, 269-002 TORX pressed onto the flange of the crankshaft. Replace the old harmonic balancer bolt and tighten the new nut to torque of 240 ft-lbs; this is followed by measuring the distance of the harmonic balancer hub to the crank snout, the harmonic balancer hub should by equally protrude 3/32 to 11/64 -inch beyond the crankshaft snout. If it measures wrong, than place back the harmonic balancer installation tool and press on the harmonic balancer until it measures as it should. Last, but not least, fit a new harmonic balancer bolt and go on turning it up to the certain value of the torque and the certain angle, Besides, don't forget to perform the rest of the installation procedures in the reverse order.
