    Q:
How to remove and reinstall the front control arms and ensure proper alignment on Chevrolet Corvette? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the front wheels by, loosening the front wheel lug nuts, raising the front of the car and supporting it on jackstands. Place the car such that the lower control arm is supported by a floor jack. For 2008 and earlier models remove the electronic suspension sensor link from the control arm. Unscrew the upper balljoint nut and with an aid of a ball joint removal tool, remove the ball stud from the upper control arm but do not use an impact wrench. Disconnect and set aside the upper control arm-to-shim-and-steel-bushing bolts and eliminate the shims from it. The process of installation is the reverse to the process of removal, all fasteners need to be tightened to the torque values mentioned above, it is recommended to check and adjust the front wheel alignment is needed after this process. For the lower control arm, using a floor jack, position it under in a manner to create room to work on the shock absorber lower mounting nuts/bolts. Record the dimension from the face of the control arm to the face of the spring at the bolt for ride height setting. Unplug the ABS wheel speed sensor harness and , on the 2009 and later model ones, remove the electronic suspension control sensor link. Take away the nuts of stabilizer bar link and detached the shock absorber from the lower control arm. First, remove the nut of the lower ball joint and then detached the ball joint from the steering knuckle while the upper control arm and the steering knuckle should be supported. The lower balljoint nut has now to be removed and by doing so lowering the floor jack to reduce the pressure on the front transverse leaf spring. Locate the position of the lower control arm adjustment cams for reassembly, then remove the lower control arm to subframe bolts. Reinstallation is the exact process of removal only that the nuts are tightly closed until they achieve their correct torque before lifting the outer end of the control arm to mimic normal ride height before tightening the nut of the pivot bolt. Make sure that the front spring is set at the proper ride height and may be that the front wheel alignment should also be checked and corrected after the work is done.
