Q:
How do you remove the control arm for Chevrolet Cruze? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the control arm, start by loosening the wheel lug nuts on the side to be disassembled. Apply the parking brake, raise the front of the vehicle, support it securely on jackstands, and remove the wheel. Then, remove the pinch bolt securing the balljoint to the control arm and pry the control arm balljoint from the steering knuckle. Next, remove the bolts that attach the control arm to the subframe and finally remove the control arm. For inspection, check the control arm for distortion and the bushings for wear, replacing any worn parts. Do not attempt to straighten a bent control arm. If the front bushing is cracked or shows signs of wear, take the control arm to an automotive machine shop to have the bushing replaced. If the rear bushing needs replacement, remove the bolt and separate the bushing from the control arm. When installing the bushing, use a new bolt and tighten it to the proper torque specifications. To install the control arm, follow the reverse steps of removal and tighten all fasteners to the proper torque values. Finally, install the wheel and lug nuts, lower the vehicle, and tighten the lug nuts to the proper torque specifications. It is recommended to have the front wheel alignment checked and adjusted if necessary.
