    Q:
How do you remove and install a transaxle on Chevrolet Metro? Posted by Customer
    A:
To pull the transaxle, there is the need to disconnect the negative terminal from the battery together with the battery and the tray. Lift the vehicle off the ground properly with jackstands and also drain the transaxle possible. Bolt off the torque converter housing to access the torque converter and the drive plate; paint the torque converter and the corresponding area(on) of the drive plate to indicate the reassembly pattern white. Loosen but do not take out the torque converter-to-drive plate bolts; to do this, lock the drive plate from turning and turn the crankshaft pulley bolt to gain access. Second, after that you have to take out the starter motor, disconnect the driveaxles, speedometer cable and wire harness from the transaxle. Take all such exhausts which cause hindrance, disconnect the TV cable, shift linkage and then place the engine on a block of wood with a help of a suitable hoist or jack. Place a jack under the transaxle preferably a special one and remove any parts of the chassis or suspension in the way of the removal. The bolts that hold the transaxle to the engine must be undone as well as the nuts and bolts holding the transaxle to the mount; to do this a LB must lower the transaxle to disconnect and cap the cooler lines; moving the transaxle back will also deselect the engine block dowel pins; and the torque converter must come off the drive plate. Bolt the torque converter to the transaxle so that it would not come off during removal and then lower the transaxle off of the vehicle. For installation, make sure the torque converter hub is properly locked into the pump, and check the distance from the flange nut of torque converter to Transaxle housing; if it is not okay, reinstall the torque converter again firmly. Grind the central cup of the torque cover with multi purpose grease then lift the transaxle delicately and in a horizontal manner lest the torque converter pops out. Join the fluid cooler hoses, rotate the torque converter so it is positioned over the drive studs of the drive plate, and bring the transaxle forward slowly into engagement. Put the housing to engine bolts and tighten it and torque the torque converter to drive plate bolts. Replace any that were taken off suspension and chassis part, make good the bolts and nuts to the manufacturer torque specifications and finally, lower the jacks from under the transaxle and engine. Fitting of the starter motor should be done as well as interconnecting of vacuum hoses, shift and TV linkage, and electrical connectors. Torque converter cover install with driveaxles and speedometer cable connected with adjustment of the shift cable exhaust parts if removed again lower the vehicle transaxle fill run vehicle check for any transaxle fluid leaks.
