It's easier to remove the fuel tank when it's nearly empty. If that's not possible, try to siphon out the fuel in the tank before removing the tank. On 2016 and later models, the exhaust system must be removed. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Loosen the right-rear wheel lug nuts. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the wheel. Remove the inner fender splash shield. If there's still a lot of fuel in the tank, insert a small hose into the fill pipe flap and siphon or hand-pump the remaining fuel from the tank now. On 2015 and earlier models, depending on the equipment you're using to support the tank, it may be necessary to remove the exhaust pipe and muffler insulators from the hangers and lower the exhaust pipe onto the rear axle for tank removal clearance. Disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel pressure sensor, then place a drain pan under the fuel lines and disconnect the fuel supply line and vent pipe. Remove the fuel tank filler hose, vent pipe connection and the fuel tank filler vent pipe. Disconnect the fuel tank ground strap, if equipped. On 2016 and later models, remove the parking brake cable bracket retaining nuts from the fuel tank straps and secure the cables out of the way. Support the fuel tank with a transmission jack, if available, or with a floor jack. If you're going to use a floor jack, put a sturdy piece of plywood between the jack head and the fuel tank to protect the tank. It's also a good idea to have an assistant to help with tank removal. With the tank supported, remove the fuel tank strap bolts and lower the straps towards the rear. Lower the tank enough to have a look at the top of the tank. Disconnect the electrical connector for the fuel pump module and disconnect the connector for the EVAP canister vent hose. Disconnect the fuel tank harness from the EVAP canister. Lower the tank the rest of the way, angling the right side down first until it is clear of the chassis. Move the tank to the right until the left side of the tank clears the exhaust pipe, then remove the tank. If you're replacing the tank, mark the EVAP system hoses with tape and disconnect them from the canister. Installation is the reverse of removal.
