    When fitting the brake pedal switches it is important that the brake pedal is at full up or still to avoid some possible damages to the brake system or mislocation of the switch. One has to start by removing the negative battery terminal and in addition, remove the staple and other panel insulators to access the switch. Remove the electrical connector(s) from the switch and if so equipped, remove the vacuum hose from it. This is followed by the removal of the brake light switch by turning it anticlockwise on Deville models. For installation the performer should complete the reverse of the above-stated removal procedure, and to regulate the switch if it is required.

    The brake light switch is atop the brake pedal, activating brake lights when pressed. Remove the under dash cover and locate the switch near the steering column; if there's cruise control, it's the switch at the bracket's end. Disconnect the negative battery cable and the switch's wiring connectors. Depress the brake, remove the old switch from the clip, and push the new one in until audible clicks cease. Pull the pedal to the rear for auto-adjustment, avoiding excessive force. Reconnect wiring and ensure brake lights work.

    The switch is fixed on bracket or flange which extends from the brake pedal support. It should be noted that when the brake pedal is fully released the plunger on the body of the switch should completely 'bottom out'. When the pedal is pressed down the plunger moves and the electrical current flows to the stop lights of the car found at the rear end. To remove a bad switch, turn the electrical coupler off, two couplers if you own a car with a cruise control, then pull the switch from the bracket. After installation, slide the switch into a slot and make sure that it is fully accomodated then operating the brake pedal back and forth to the extreme the switch moves and adjusts for easy operation.

    Have an assistant depress the brake pedal downward all the way and pull the switch out of the tubular clip in the bracket located in front of the brake pedal.
