Q:
What is the purpose of a Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system and PCV Valve for Cadillac ElDorado and Fleetwood? Posted by Customer
A:
Instead of venting them to the atmosphere, a positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system is used to consume crankcase vapors in the combustion process. In gasoline engines, small amounts of combustion gas pass by the piston rings and get into the crankcase. Such crankcase blow-by gases have unwanted air pollutants, which are hydrocarbons. The PCV system is used to keep these vapors from getting away into the atmosphere while still allowing for adequate ventilation of the crankcase that ensures good oil quality. It should be checked every time you change oil and serviced every 48,000 kilometers (30,000 miles). For it can be damaged, never run an engine without a PCV valve or a ventilation system. Beginning with locating PCV valve usually found either in valve cover or intake manifold and then disconnecting the crank case ventilation tube from the positive crank case ventilation valve followed by removing the PCV valve from its grommet, install PCV valve by having it inserted into grommet with connecting ventilation tube to PCV valve.

Q:
How do you replace a PCV valve for Chevrolet Caprice? Posted by Customer
A:
Usually, you may find the PCV valve pushed into one of the rocker arm covers on the side of the engine, with a hose attached to it which runs either to the intake manifold or the carburetor. Thus, when purchasing a new PCV valve, make sure that it is designed for your specific vehicle, model year and engine size. Subsequently, use pliers or screwdriver (according to type of pipe clip) to loosen clamp on end of hose and move clamp up toward PCV hose. Next, pull the PCV valve off from its end of hose while remembering its installed position and direction. This will assist in ensuring that the old valve is similar to the new one. Gently push new valve until fully seated into end of hose. Move hose clamp down hose then tighten it securely around end of hose. Inspect rubber grommet in cover for damage and replace if necessary. Lastly, press in the PCV valve and hose snugly into rocker arm cover. More information about PCV system can be found elsewhere.

Q:
How do I check and replace the PCV valve in my Chevrolet Blazer,S10,GMC Jimmy and Sonoma? Posted by Customer
A:
If the engine runs at normal operating temperature, while idling, withdraw the valve (with attached hose) from the rubber grommet on the valve cover. In a V6 engine, PCV valve takes place in a valve cover. Take it out and see if there is any suction and shake it to check for rattles. Put your finger over the tip of the valve. If there is no vacuum at the valve, test a clogged hose, manifold port or valve itself. Replace any plugged or deteriorated hoses. Shut off engine and shake PCV valve; listen for rattle. If it does not rattle, get a new one to replace that which exists currently but doesn't make noise when shaken, and pull it out of end of hose so that you can take note its installed position as well as direction before replacing it again with an identical one To fit a replacement PCV vale, remove it from the end of hose and remember how it has been placed consequently you may have problems with finding appropriate vehicle model year, size for such an item purchased only after comparing previous characteristics with new ones Check for damage on rubber grommet and if need be install a new one. Lastly push another pcv valve and hose into their respective slots inside the valve cover securely.
