To begin the removal process on Metro models, relieve the fuel pressure and disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Next, drain the cooling system and remove the air cleaner. Clearly label and disconnect all hoses, wires, brackets, and emission lines connected to the carburetor/throttle body and intake manifold. Disconnect the fuel lines from the carburetor/throttle body and cap the fittings to prevent leakage, then disconnect the throttle cable from the carburetor/throttle body. For automatic transaxle models, detach the cable that runs from the carburetor/throttle body to the transaxle. Unscrew the bolts and nuts to remove the intake manifold from the engine, tapping it gently with a soft-face hammer if it sticks, while avoiding prying between the gasket sealing surfaces or tapping on the carburetor/throttle body. Clean the manifold and cylinder head mating surfaces thoroughly, ensuring all traces of gasket material are removed. For installation, place the manifold with a new gasket and tighten the bolts and nuts in several steps, working from the center out until the specified torque is reached. Finally, reinstall the remaining parts in reverse order, add coolant, run the engine, and check for leaks and proper operation.
