    Q:
What are the steps involved in removing and installing the front and rear bumper covers safely on Chevrolet Corvette? Posted by Customer
    A:
The front bumper cover is actually a huge one which needs at least two people to remove it because you cannot afford to scratch painted surfaces The screws are unique and you need to know where they belong and again depending on their size they are place in different areas. First, the front wheel nuts should be loosened, the vehicle should be lifted and placed on jackstands before the front wheels are detached. Subsequently, remove the lower close-out trim panels, brake rotor ducting hoses and associated fastening. Pop back the 6 screws from the lower part of the front bumper fascia, in addition to getting the inner fender liners of both sides. Next, every top of the front bumper has screws, try to avoid scratching from your fingers when you pull them out, and remove screws and fasteners from the front edge of every fender. If there are electrical connectors in the fog lamps, these must be disconnected; similarly, the last remaining grip clips on the upper rear bumpers of the bumper cover to the fender must also be undone; an examination in the dark with a torch will be necessary for this. As you apply slight pressure, turn the front bumper fascia loose from the automobile to inspect for other special fasteners or connections, and after that position it aside out of damages' way and be certain it doesn't bow due to a flat support. The process of installing involves the following steps in the opposite way to the removal process. Like with the front one, for the rear bumper cover, which weigh a lot and are rather large to handle, you will need to first unscrew the rear wheel lug bolts, then jack up the car and support it on jackstands before removing the wheels. Disconnect the rear inner fender liners and take out the fasteners of the rear underside bumper. Disconnect the outer tail lamp housing cover beads and, reach inside the opening on the tail lamp housing and undo the bumper to quarter panel fasteners on either side. Remove the electrical connectors from the remaining tail lamp housings, remove the license plate and frame and the electrical connections to the reverse light and the license plate light. The rest of the bolts that hold the quarter panels to the rear bumper can be removed from inside the wheel wells, and across the top edge of the bumper are screws that have to be taken out while pulling back the deck lid seal by opening the rear deck lid. Flashlight the area to ensure that all connection and screws have been pulled out of the fender wells and other joining points. With help, try to pull the fascia at the back so that you see if there are any other screws or wirings behind it, then take the rear bumper and place it somewhere safe and preferable in such a way that there are as many of its points touching the bottom so that it does not bow. The removal process is also done in the same way and help should be sought when reattaching the bumper cover.
