Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. For the front bumper cover on 2015 and earlier models (and 2016 Malibu Limited), open the hood, apply the parking brake, raise the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands before removing the front wheels. The front fenderwell splash shield consists of two parts. Remove the fasteners securing the front portion of the splash shield, then take off the frontmost part. Next, remove the upper fasteners along the radiator support and the lower fasteners from beneath the vehicle. Detach the fastener at each side securing the bumper cover to the fender, and loosen the lower bumper cover impact bar rear bolts a few turns. If equipped, remove the bolts retaining the shutter assembly. Use a plastic trim tool to gently pry between the bumper cover and the fender, working it off the headlight housing until it is free, with assistance to prevent it from falling. Carefully pull the bumper cover away from the vehicle while checking for and disconnecting any electrical connectors. Installation is the reverse of removal. For 2016 and later models (except 2016 Malibu Limited), follow similar initial steps, but only remove the front inner fender splash shield fasteners to reposition it for bumper cover removal. Remove the front inner fender splash shields, the bolt from inside each fenderwell, the upper side bolts along with the plastic retaining braces, and the lower radiator splash shield. Remove the bumper cover upper mounting bolts, ensuring assistance is available when pulling off the bumper cover. Use a plastic trim tool to pry between the bumper cover and the fender, working it off the headlight housing until it is free, and check for electrical connectors while pulling it away. Installation is the reverse of removal. For the rear bumper cover, remove the rear inner fender splash shield fasteners at each side, the rear bumper cover fenderwell fastener from each side, and the rear underbody air shield if equipped, along with the bumper cover lower fasteners. Use a plastic trim tool to pry between the bumper cover and the rear fender, working it off the fender bracket and taillight housing until it is free, with assistance to prevent it from falling. Pull the bumper cover out and away from the vehicle, disconnecting any necessary electrical connectors. Installation is the reverse of removal. To access the impact beam, remove the front or rear bumper cover, then if equipped, remove the pushpins retaining the air baffles and the baffles from the impact beam. On 2015 and earlier models, remove the right side headlight housing, noting the two impact beam mounting bolts and nuts located on the right side of the beam. Loosen the impact beam bolts, detach any wiring harnesses, then support and remove it from the vehicle. Installation is the reverse of removal.
