    Q:
How can the crankshaft be removed from the engine after it has been taken out on Chevrolet Cruze? Posted by Customer
    A:
That being said, only after you have removed the engine you will be able to take out the crankshaft, if all those components as the flywheel, crankshaft pulley, timing belt/chain, oil pan, oil pump body, oil filter or piston/connecting rod assembly or the rear main oil seal have been successfully removed. Start with the dial indicator and zero the measurements before forcing the crankshaft so as to see the type of reading; the normal end play is 0.003-0.010 inch. If, however, the use of a dial indicator is not possible, feeler gauges can be used to measure clearance. Turn the lower crankcase perimeter bolts and main bearing cap bolts to one or two turns less than torque, so that the bolts can be easily removed with hands, although, he added that on certain engines, all the lower crankcase or main bearing cap bolts must be replaced with new ones. Slowly pull out the crankshaft as required, which may be quite heavy; for some engines, replace the lower crankcase and insert the bearing. For installation it is recommended that the engine block and the crankshaft should be clean and checked before installation, then the block should be turned upside down to remove the bearing inserts and the surfaces should be cleaned. New upper main bearing inserts should be placed in the block in such a manner that oil holes will be aligned; should install new lower inserts in crankcase. Once you have cleaned the crankshaft place it in place and check the main bearing oil clearance using Plastigage without interrupting its position when fitting the lower crankcase. Once you have tightened the bolts, take off the crankcase in order to check the Plastigage, and at the same time observe if the bearing inserts are standard or not. In case of need, replace with such inserts that are less in size. Wipe off any Plastigage residue left behind and reassemble by applying oil to the bearing, and indeed all the mating surfaces to be joined, before re installation of the lower crankcase. Torque all bolts to the required specification and then check the crankshaft end play and be sure that it should rotate loosely with some force applied. Last of all place the new rear main oil seal.
