To do this; use a small screwing tool or any trimming tool to pry out the knob at the front; then unscrew the set screw on the shaft and pull out the knob off the shifter. As for the shift lever assembly first remove cable from the negative terminal of the battery and wait for at least 2 minutes. Before taking out the shift lever it is good to check on the shift linkage adjustment. Then, shift the shift knob and then jack up the front part of the car and support it with jack stands. The shift lever control linkage adjustment bolt should be removed and that will allow the linkage rod to be pulled away from the shifter. Then remove the shift control assembly mounting nuts and the shift indicator panel screws and then pull the panel up in order to disconnect the electrical connectors. Pop off the top center console and discharge the harness electrical connectors, pull up the shift assembly until the studs are out of the way of the floor panel.
