The accumulator should be replaced whenever the condenser is replaced. First, discharge the system and disconnect the negative cable from the battery, ensuring that the lockout feature is turned off on models equipped with the Delco Loc II audio system. Next, disconnect the refrigerant lines from the condenser by removing the bolt and plugging the lines to keep dirt and moisture out. Remove the plastic air baffle from above the condenser and take out the condenser mounting bolts. For 1987 and 1988 models, remove the battery, air cleaner assembly, air intake duct, cooling fan, and swing the headlights aside by removing the attaching screws. Then, remove the radiator and condenser as an assembly. For 1989 and later models, remove the grille support brackets and the hood latch assembly, then lift the condenser out of the vehicle while tilting the driver's side up. If the original condenser will be reinstalled, plug the line fittings to prevent oil from draining out. If a new condenser is being installed, pour one ounce of refrigerant oil into it prior to installation. Finally, reinstall the components in the reverse order of removal, ensuring the rubber pads are in place under the condenser, and have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak tested by the shop that discharged it.
